Scientific research is bringing to the forefront how Moringa oleifera helps in combating diabetes. When inflammation is reduced the blood sugar count and CRP levels improves.
Inflammation is the Root of Diabetes
The scientific research that is being conducted on Moringa oleifera or Malunggay has been bringing to the forefront the effectiveness of Moringa oleifera in combatting Diabetes. More and more studies are being conducted on the efficacy of Moringa.
One 2015 study on human consumption brought to light how effective Moringa can be when consuming it consistently. The key with any supplement is being consistent and dedicated to achieving the results needed. Natural products will take anywhere from 30 to 90 days to achieve the needed improvements. It’s a slower process as it needs to get to the cellular level of the inflammation or disease. In this 2015 study, it was performed on 56 participants by Dr. Ranier Nery Mozo and his adviser Dr. Imelda Caoela – Ang of the Philippines. They worked under the approval of the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center/Medical Education and Research Committee, and Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine Research Committee. In the 12-week study it was confirmed that the participants who stuck to the protocol, (4 dropped out) had great results by taking only 3 capsules a day of Moringa oleifera. It is evident that when inflammation is reduced, which seems to be the precursor to diabetes, the blood sugar count improves as well as the CRP levels. (1)
Moringa vs Kale
In saying this, there is nothing that can take the place of good nutrition, exercise and watching carbs while fighting disease. Many people don’t realize that carbohydrates (refined foods such as bread, pasta, pastries, cereals, etc.) turn into sugar which, then, raises the glycemic index of your daily quotas.
We are instructed by dieticians, doctors and just our common sense to eat plenty of vegetables. Leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables are important to incorporate into our diet and we have been told kale and spinach are the ultimate nutrition in the leafy green section of produce.
But hang on to your hat because there is another green leaf that is more nutritious than kale and spinach or any other green food – Moringa oleifera. It’s a tiny leaf but it has a mighty punch.
There hasn’t been enough research on humans, as yet, in the western world but testimonies have indicated Moringa oleifera has helped many people with their blood sugar. In another study on animals done in the states, it seemed to validate scientifically the use of Moringa oleifera to help with diabetes. (2)
According to several studies, Moringa oleifera is useful for many other ailments. What’s interesting is how in other tropic and sub-tropic countries where most of the studies have been done, they highly value Moringa oleifera as it is widely used in medicinal applications. Fights Oxidation, Too
There are several advantages in using Moringa:
- It is full of nutrients. It has all the essential amino acids, minerals such as potassium, calcium, protein, rich in vitamin A, C, and E, just to name a few.
- Moringa contains anti-oxidants that fight free radicals such as stress, cell damage, and inflammation, etc.
- Reduces symptoms of some diabetes. (4), (5)
- Has protective agents for the cardiovascular system.
- It helps in cognitive function.
- Fights oxidation on the liver.
- Has anti-aging properties such as Zeatin which so far, the plant-based compound has only been found in Moringa.
The list here is minimal but you can see the value in taking Moringa. When we look at all the aspects of Moringa from the leaves, flowers, pods and all the way to the roots, they say there isn’t a more nutritious plant on earth than Moringa.
I hear often how people can’t afford to incorporate supplements into their diet. But when the rubber meets the road, so to speak, our health is the most important aspect in living. Recently I have been visiting a loved one in a rehab care facility. Every day I take him Moringa. There are so many in the facility who have no quality of life. They are weak, over weight and do little to improve their health or to take responsibility for their own health. He is 92 years old and he is getting stronger every day. There are others who have less issues than him who are on a slow road to recovery, if they ever get that chance to recover. The nursing staff are amazed how strong he is and well he is doing; walking on his own, doing more reps than required, stamina is good and body strength is strong as an ox. He gives credit to Moringa.
Moringa is a great additive to regular diet and exercise and can be added to food, smoothies or taken in capsule form. The leaves and flowers also can be placed in a diffuser to enjoy a gentle but powerful cup of tea.
